Once Brownlee realises that without Brash, his tenure as deputy is all but over, he may try to cut a deal with one of the potential successors (more likely to be English than Key).

Good point but he's such an oaf I didn't think he had a chance - surely he only got up last time 'cause of Smith's little turn?
