Kev's in trouble. How much is hard to tell but news that he visited a New York strip club will surprise many. Kev's a good Christian bloke, so much so that for a time some of his colleagues thought him too much of a prude to lead Labor. Now he's revealed as a bit of bloke who necks a few too many and then ogles the local ladies - well once anyway.
I suspect the fact that he visited a strip bar won't hurt him much, but that he was on official taxpayer business at the time might - Cossie's already making jibes that he'd be far to busy to take such indulgences... plus there's a hint that Kev got a bit too close to some of the dancers...

Ouch! (Still at least he's not head of NZ Women's Refuge . . . )
He's made a boob of himself, that's for sure - probably doubly so. I don't think it's enough to muff his chances, though. If he continues to beaver away at the serious stuff and shows his naked ambition and that he's not a pussy about this kind of thing, I think people will stop making him the butt of jokes and he will start doing well with the poles. This has fallen into the Government's lap. But they're starting to full body slide into the next election. Perhaps Rudd will get his happy ending.
The fact that he's there on taxpayer business doesn't mean he spent taxpayer dollars at the strip club. Besides which, all sorts of important deals are doing in far more unsavoury places. Who's to say that the taxpayer didn't win out of this? (And it makes Kev look like less of a tight-arse twit, so all the better....)
I make no judgement on stripclubs or strippers. My only comment is that as a senior member of Labor, he should know that his actions will be closely scrutinised. I tend to agree that it'll not do him too much harm however.
I don't know Australian politics, but if Kev is anything like the mob here, I wouldn't be surprised if he did this quite consciously. Given Australia's history as a nation of larrikins, why would they want a tedious Christian wowser as their leader? Much smarter to paint him as slightly blokey....or, indeed, to have your own party leak the 'scandal'...
I always say that politicians need to ignore the knockers of the World.
Yeah, I always do no matter how persistent or determined they are or how much they get in your face. God knows why, I just shake my head in despair sometimes...
Nice pun, Crasster.
Personally I liked Jull Pettis's response when asked if she had been to a strip bar: "Why go out for a hamburger when you have a steak at home".
Me too - I thought her response showed class.
