One day Roger Finch, one day

Ok, so that's got nothing to do with shit but I can't think of a way to introduce yet another browncardigan sourced clip - this one is stop motion animation (a fav of the 'bc' crew).

Some readers may nevertheless wish to suggest where the title of the entry came from... prizes may be available.

Hah - I posted on this once - it's an old ad for some iceblock or another - nerdy kid pipped for the affetions of some girl by the smarmy roger phipps.

BTW - now you've posted it you'll be surprised how many people google the phrase.

That was me above BTW - somehow my secret identity wasn't working at the time

llew - your secret is safe.

Could it have been for a trumpet - you know before the now famous Rachel Hunter ad?

It's bugging the hell out of me - I need to be half-cut again to recall the image...

It could have been a trumpet - that came to mind... I can recall the face of the guy who said "One day..." and he is or was a fimiliar face on NZ TV, possibly one of the Improvisers.

The Film Archive probably has it on tape (you can pop in & find it via the catalogue - I found the very first fruju ad in about 10 minutes when I was last there.

Film archive online or its physical manifestation?

I googled. I searched up the Film Archive. I am beaten. I cannot remember where the phrase came from. It's going to really annoy me now.

I have a pretty clear memory of the image accommpanying the phrase - kid a the back of a bus I think - but can't remember the product... could an ice-cream really defeat the uber-search engine Google?

Too easy. I once bought an ice-cream for a girl called Fay / But Roger the bully stole them both away. / Now that I’m grown-up, look what I’ve got! / It’s a Trumpet, Fay, and it’s made by Tip-Top. Backin15, you were right.

Give that man a chocolate fish! Thanks Jack - these damned jingles get stuck in your head even if only partially.

Tell me, did you remember or did you find it somewhere?

It’s been stuck in my head since it was on, but probably more when they started replaying the Rachel Hunter Trumpet ad and I thought, ‘Hey, what about the real one?’
But I can’t remember the whole song. I even wrote to Tip-Top a couple of years ago but never got a reply. I was actually searching for it on YouTube when I found your post. (No joy on YouTube, either.)
Coincidentally, I did a blog post on it at jackyan.vox.com just this week. If anyone here remembers the whole song, feel free to let me know! (Vox won’t let non-members answer but I have a proper blog at jackyan.com, with a feedback form.)

Pete Lamb has a bit more, Backin15: he even has the missing line I couldn’t remember.

When I was a young lad. Had never been kissed. I got to thinking. How much had I missed? So I bought me an ice-cream for a girl called Fay. Then Roger The Bully stole them both away. She said "One day you'll be a big boy". Now that I'm grown up look what I've got! It's a Trumpet, Fay, and it's made by Top Top. It's got chocolate and nuts and flavours to try.... (maybe something missing here).... And then. And then. And then! Oh lordy it's Roger again. She said "One day you'll be a big boy". One day Roger Fich! One day!

Oh the missing bit.... "It's the treat for the big boys", I told her. And then. And then....
